The countdown begins for Marbella's new port, The Andalusian Junta yesterday initialed the contract to begin work to expand the marina of the joint venture, consisting of the company's owners The Sheikh of Qatar who owns Málaga Football Club, Abdullah Ben Nasser Al-Thani, and the Marbella Town Hall.

It's more than one major project stated Marbella's Mayoress Angeles Muñoz after the signing of this historic agreement that will bring employment, tourism and wealth to the town.

This is the first time in Spain that a public works concession has been agreed for an expansion of a marina of this size and complexity.

541 new berths will be constructed, in addition to the 262 that already exist.

The work consists of an extension to the open sea through new dams and semicircular outer harbour. 

Located in an area destined to become the nerve centre of the town.                                                                                    
 

It is estmated to bring 1500 direct contracts and some 3000 indirect, which is great news for Marbella.
